Green fashion makes imminent sense
Most people are wondering about the future of green and sustainable product varieties given the recent turn of economic trends. Thoughts regarding the scale with which green products will grow are obvious given that there is a perception that most green, organic and sustainable products are more difficult and tedious to produce and therefore more expensive. The same debate has been brewing in the fashion industry as well. With higher levels of consciousness and awareness about the need to protect earth's resources, many consumers had started to pitch in by starting to buy as many green products as possible. However, among other debates, the recent economic trend has brought out discussions about whether green fashion will be sustainable in the current recession environment.
There is no doubt that any recession has a significant impact on the amount of monies consumers spend on fashion and apparel. While some may argue that the fear of a sustained recession leads consumers to cut back on all luxury products and services, there are others that feel that consumers start looking for discounts and rebates on regular daily items to be able to rationalize and save for the odd luxury that they still want to spend money on. There is also the theory that while consumers may start looking for more value, they are unlikely to cut back on aspects that make them "feel" good. Shopping for desired items like fashion clothing and indulging in services like a massage continue to remain in existence since everyone needs a break from the regular drudgery of budgeting and planning for household expenses.
This leads us to believe that though there may not be a major impact on all fashion apparel, those that are high priced but look evidently plain are likely to suffer. With green fashion, however, the story is very different. The fact of the matter is that the awareness levels for the need of a green environment have reached such an extent that proponents and consumers alike understand that green products allow for better resource and cost savings, efficiencies and sustainability.
The result of all this has been what can be expected. The threat of recession has not affected sales of green products including green fashion at all. On the other hand, people have become more alive to the need of the hour to look at more long term saving options that can help the country in conserving oil, energy and other measures that conserve the environment.
