eConscous Market was created in Founded in September, 2006 by Mathew Gerson and Pippa Sorley. eConscious Market is an online eco-commerce site that donates substantial funds to nonprofits; they recently added hundreds of new eco-friendly products to its marketplace to help consumers shop and live in more socially responsible ways. Environmental consumers that shop at eConscious Market will participate in its automatic giveback program, where a minimum of ten percent of every sale will be donated to a non-profit chosen by its customers. The eConscious Market model of business is part of a new wave of "for-benefit" companies whose goal of being in business is to benefit the entire community. The company purchases ecologically and socially responsible products, sells them at or below suggested retail price, and donates ten percent of every sale to one of their selected non-profit partners such as The Hunger Project, International Development Enterprises, and The Nature Conservancy.
